Commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev with original sets by Pablo Picasso, Pulcinella is a Neapolitan comedy danced to music by Igor Stravinsky Choreographer Heinz Spoerli presents his 1980 production with the Basle Ballet – a magical rendering that is both faithful to his famous predecessors and delightfully modern Pulcinella relates the story of a town rogue who plays an elaborate trick on three flirtatious girls and their boyfriends The score for Pulcinella was one of Stravinsky’s first neoclassical compositions and incorporated musical material from chamber music by Pergolesi.
