Pulcinella
Marriner
Commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev with original sets by Pablo Picasso, Pulcinella is a Neapolitan
comedy danced to music by Igor Stravinsky
Choreographer Heinz Spoerli presents his 1980 production with the Basle Ballet – a magical
rendering that is both faithful to his famous predecessors and delightfully modern
Pulcinella relates the story of a town rogue who plays an elaborate trick on three flirtatious
girls and their boyfriends
The score for Pulcinella was one of Stravinsky’s first neoclassical compositions and incorporated
musical material from chamber music by Pergolesi.
